I have played the World Shogi League 2022 round 3, for April. The opponent was Great Britain 2. After the round 3 games, we earned 3 points (won 3 games in team total) placed in 8th position in the Devision C. The 1st place is Vietnam and the score is 7 points. We are 4 points behind. It was lucky that we earned 2 games from Great Britain 2, because their position is higher than us. Our next opponent will be Brazil 2 in May, and Colombia in June. Both of them are placed lower than us, so we cannot lose any point to follow the upper rank teams.
Below is my game in WSL2022 in April. I barely won the game. Honestly, I felt I lost the game while playing. The opponent is 1Kyu player, but I believe one has much higher skill. I have run the Piyo Shogi Analyzer with maximum searching level. You can check out the evaluation chart in the lower part of the picture below. In the very beginning of the game, the opponent advanced 2nd file pawn, which is wuite common opening. Against the natural movement, I did not protect my pawn in 2nd file. The opponent was able to exchange the pawns, but that did not happen. My intension after the pawn exchange was to capture Rook like following. However, the opponent did not chose the sequence. It is called ”Tonari Style”, named after the professional player Tonari who found the sequence. It seems that if the opponent precisely deal with the Tonari style, one can proceed the game with advantage. However, the correct sequence is not well known, so I shose the opening sometime as a surprise attack.
