World Shogi League 2022 has begun since February. The WSL is an online Shogi league supported by Japanese Shogi Association. 59 teams are registered to 5 divisions according to the former year’s result. Three representative from each team play a game with the opponent once a month. The winner will be decided according to the total score through the year, and they can get chances to play games with professional Shogi player in Japan.
Our UAE team belongs to the division C and our first opponent team was Hong Kong. I was black (first move) and the opponent was white (second move). The black and white is opposite from the chess rule (white first, and then black). I made 4th-file Rook formation, and the opponent was Right-hand 4th-file Rook.
The opponent made a rapid attack as Pawn-6e, but I did not capture it. Instead, I pushed Pawn-5f. After that, Px6f, Sx6f, and then white dropped pawn to 6g like second fig. It seems that the move was not good. I captured the pawn with gold, and the opponent struggled to continue the attack.
The opponent not only lost the bishop, but also I was able to take control of center area. After that, I made harsh attack with sacrificing my bishop. At the last scene, the opponent’s bishop and rook promoted, but I could drive the king into a corner. The chart below the fig is evaluation score by AI, showing that I was always superior position through the game.
